Setup and ergonomics

Your desk sets the ceiling on your sensitivity. Your chair sets your shoulder position, which sets your forearm angle, which sets how precisely you can move. None of this is on a specification sheet, all of it is free to fix, and it is where the largest untapped improvements usually are.

The physical layer, in order of impact

  1. Desk width available to your mouse. Sets the slowest sensitivity you can execute.
  2. Desk and chair height. Sets your forearm angle and whether your shoulder is loaded.
  3. Keyboard position and angle. Determines how much of that width your mouse actually gets.
  4. Monitor height and distance. Mostly a neck question, partly a scanning arc question.

Your desk sets your sensitivity, not the other way round

People choose a sensitivity and then try to execute it in whatever space they have. That is backwards, because space is the hard constraint and sensitivity is the adjustable one.

Measure the clear horizontal distance your mouse can travel before hitting your keyboard on one side or leaving the desk on the other. If that is 40 cm, anything slower than about 36 cm per 360 involves lifting mid-turn, which means every subsequent correction starts from a hand position you did not choose. Fatigue is an ergonomics problem, not a gear problem

If your aim is noticeably worse in hour three than in hour one, that is a fatigue signature, and it points upstream of your mouse. A movement produced by a relaxed, supported forearm is more repeatable than the same movement produced by a shoulder holding position against gravity, because the muscles doing the fine control are not also doing structural work.
