Arm versus wrist aiming
The argument is usually framed as a choice, and it is not one. Your wrist and your forearm have different ranges of motion and different precision characteristics, and a good aim uses each for what it is good at. What varies between players is where the handover point sits.
What each joint provides

Those ranges are the reason the argument resolves itself. If your cm/360 is 25, a full turn is inside the wrist's range and there is no need to involve the arm. If it is 50, a full turn exceeds the wrist's range and the arm must be involved whether you intended it or not.
The handover, which is the actual skill
What separates a good aim from a mediocre one at the same sensitivity is rarely which joint is used. It is how cleanly the handover happens: a large arm sweep that gets you approximately onto the target, followed immediately by a wrist and finger correction that finishes it, with no pause between them.
When that handover is clumsy, you see a characteristic pattern: a large movement, a stop, a visible pause, then a second movement. The pause is the cost of switching control from one joint to another, and it is trainable. Aim training routines that mix large flicks with fine tracking are effectively practising the handover, which is why they work better than practising either in isolation.
Identifying your own pattern
- Play a session normally. Do not think about your arm.
- At an arbitrary moment during a fight, freeze completely without adjusting anything.
- Look at where your elbow is, whether your forearm is resting on the desk, and where your hand is relative to the pad.
- Repeat a few times over the session.
What you are looking for is not a category but a pattern: does the elbow stay put? does the forearm rest on the desk edge or float? does your hand end up near the same place after fights or drift across the pad? The last one is particularly informative, because drifting means your repositioning is not returning you to a consistent home position.

The forearm support row is the one people get wrong. An arm aimer whose forearm hangs off the desk edge is doing the work with their shoulder, which is both less precise and considerably more tiring. If you aim with your arm, the desk must be deep enough that your forearm stays supported throughout the movement.
The most useful single adjustment
If you aim with your forearm and your desk is shallow, rotating your keyboard away and moving it left frees enough depth for the forearm to rest properly. This costs nothing and is the change we would suggest first for anyone who reports their arm getting tired.

Frequently asked questions
Is arm aiming better than wrist aiming?
Neither is better; they suit different movement sizes. The forearm has a large range with coarser resolution, the wrist a small range with finer resolution. Almost every strong player uses the forearm for large repositioning and the wrist and fingers for the final correction, which is why the question is usually posed wrongly.
How do I know which one I use?
Play for ten minutes, then freeze during a fight without adjusting. Look at your elbow. If it has stayed in one place while your hand moved, you are aiming with the wrist. If the whole forearm has swept, you are arm aiming. Most people find both happened at different moments, which is the correct answer.
Should I switch to arm aiming?
Only if your current sensitivity is slow enough that the wrist cannot physically produce the movements, which is roughly 40 cm per 360 and slower. Switching for its own sake means relearning without a reason. If you play at 25 cm and aim with your wrist, that system is coherent and you should leave it alone.
Does arm aiming require a low sensitivity?
They are mutually reinforcing rather than causally linked. A low sensitivity requires large movements, which the forearm produces more comfortably; a forearm-led style benefits from a sensitivity slow enough that the arm's coarser resolution is not amplified. Choosing one strongly implies the other.
Why do my wrists hurt when I aim?
Usually desk height rather than aiming style. If the desk is too high your wrist extends upward to reach the mouse, which loads the tendons through the carpal tunnel while you work. Lower the desk or raise the chair until your forearm is level and your wrist is straight. If pain persists, stop and see a professional; this is not a subject for gear advice.
