Gear GeeksGaming

About this site

Gear Geeks Gaming exists because most gaming gear advice is a ranked list of products somebody was sent for free, and because the interesting questions in this category have exact answers that nobody was bothering to work out.

The premise

A large part of competitive gaming gear is measurable. Sensitivity conversion is arithmetic on a published engine constant. Polling rate latency is half a report interval. Frame timing is a reciprocal. Pixels per degree is trigonometry. Where a question has an exact answer, this site works it out and shows the working.

The rest of the category is genuinely uncertain: how a shape feels in your hand, whether you prefer a control pad or a speed pad, whether an ultralight mouse suits you. For those we try to give you a framework and the reasoning behind it rather than a verdict, and we say when we are expressing a judgement rather than reporting a fact.

What this site refuses to do

  • Publish "best of" lists that are really availability lists. If a product is not in our reference set, it is because it did not add information, not because it did not send us anything.
  • Present opinions as measurements. Every figure on the site is labelled as derived, manufacturer-stated, or our own framework.
  • Manufacture certainty. Where we do not know, we say so. Where a value is community-established rather than verified from a primary source, the page says that too.
  • Chase a product cycle. A new mouse with the same shape and a higher sensor number is not news, and covering it as if it were is how gear coverage became advertising.

The pages that hold us to this

Where to start

If you are new here, the three pages that best represent what the site is for are the sensitivity converter, the click-to-photon chain, and the upgrade order. Between them they cover the arithmetic, the systems thinking and the editorial position.
